Tachikawa (Japanese: 立川市) is a city in the central part of Tokyo Metropolis, Japan. It covers 24.38 sq km (9.41 sq mi) and has a population of 178,000 people (2012 estimate). The city is about 40 km to the west of the center of Tokyo. It is bordered by Kunitachi, Kokubunji, Kodaira, Higashiyamato and Musashimurayama.
Tachikawa can be reached by trains on the JR Chūō Line stopping at Tachikawa Station. The JR Ome Line and Itsukaichi Line also serves the Tachikawa and Nishi Tachikawa stations while the Nambu Line connects Tachikawa with Kawasaki. In addition, the Tama Toshi Monorail Line serves the Tachikawa Minami and Tachikawa Kita stations. From the monorail, you can get great views of Mount Fuji on a clear day.
