Taito (台東区) is a special ward of Tokyo Metropolis. It is located to the immediate northeast of downtown Tokyo. It is one of the eight central wards of downtown Tokyo which includes Chiyoda, Minato, Shibuya, Chuo, Shinjuku, Toshima and Bunkyo. Covering an area of 10.08 sq km (3.9 sq mi), it is the smallest special ward of Tokyo, and has one of the smallest population of 170,000 (2011 estimate).

Taito is bordered by Arakawa to the north, Sumida to the east, Chuo to the south, Chiyoda to the southwest, Bunkyo to the west and Kita to the northwest. It was created in 1947 when Tokyo Metropolis was established.
How to go to Taito
The Ginza Line (serving Ueno-Hirokoji, Inaricho, Tawaramachi and Asakusa Subway Stations) and Hibiya Line (serving Okachimachi, Ueno, Iriya and Minowa Subway Stations) operated by Tokyo Metro as well as the Asakusa Line (serving Asakusa-bashi, Kuramae and Asakusa Subway Stations) and Oedo Line (serving Ueno-Okachimachi, Shin-Okachimachi and Kuramae Subway Stations) operated Toei are the subway lines serving Taito, in addition to numerous regular train lines by JR East, Keisei Electric Railway, Tobu Railway and Tsukuba Express.
To reach Taito by road, take Shuto Expressway and National Highway Routes 4 and 6.
