Tsuruga (Japanese: 敦賀市) is a small harbour city in central
Fukui Prefecture, Japan. It covers 251 sq km (97 sq mi) and has a population of 68,000 people (2012 estimate).
Among cities facing the Sea of Japan, Tsuruga is the one closest to the Pacific Ocean, being 115 km from
Nagoya, on the east coast. The city is home to the Monju demonstration nuclear plant and the Tsuruga Nuclear Power Plant.
