Tsuruga (Japanese: 敦賀市) is a small harbour city in central Fukui Prefecture, Japan. It covers 251 sq km (97 sq mi) and has a population of 68,000 people (2012 estimate).
Among cities facing the Sea of Japan, Tsuruga is the one closest to the Pacific Ocean, being 115 km from Nagoya, on the east coast. The city is home to the Monju demonstration nuclear plant and the Tsuruga Nuclear Power Plant.

Tsuruga is connected by road to Japan National Routes 8, 27 and 161. You can also reach it by train on the Hokuriku Main Line, Obama Line and Kosei Line.
