Under The Tree Wan Than Mee, Jelutong Market (3 December 2016)
Jelutong Under The Tree Wan Than Mee (GPS: 5.38932, 100.31209) is the inofficial name I give to a roadside wan than mee in Jelutong. That's because it operates from a makeshift coffee shop which is under a ketapang tree along Ipoh Lane, in proximity to the Jelutong Market. During morning market session, the stretch of Ipoh Lane in front of the wan than mee stall is also occupied by market stalls, so the area is an extension of the market.
I was introduced to this wan than mee by local blogger Wendy Wong, whom I met last night at Cititel's Chef's Signature Buffet. She mentioned to me that this is one of her favourites. Well, my own favourite is the stall across from this one.
We ordered two medium-size plates of wan than mee. And specified we wanted ours extra dark. It was RM4 per plate, and the portion is larger than I have expected. There is one "wet" wanthan and two deepfried ones. The type of sambal provided has more belacan than the stall across the road, but less spicy. On the other hand, the green pickled chili was hot (according to my wife, as I didn't ask for the green pickled chili myself).
This wan than mee has a deeper aroma of sesame oil compared to the stall across the road. In comparison, my wife prefers our usual stall, though both are almost the same, in taste and appearance. I do not mind alternating between the two stalls. Both wan than mee are very good.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
