Kafe Heng Huat is a coffee shop along
Lorong Selamat in
George Town, Penang. This is the location of the famous Lorong Selamat Char Koay Teow. It relocated from
Kedai Kopi Low Eng Hoo (when it was known as Kafe Chuan Kee) further down the road.
Although I have tasted the char koay teow many years ago, and I find it to be "not bad", I don't make it a point to have char koay teow here. If I am in the area, I prefer to have the
koay kak at nearby
Midtown Cafe. It is cheaper, faster and just as tasty. The koay kak is in fact a street-side cart and I would order it into Kedai Kopi Low Eng Hoo.
For char koay teow, I prefer having elsewhere in Penang, and the
char koay teow at Kafe Heng Huat has a notorious reputation for its long waiting time, something I would not suffer, regardless how good people claim it to be (just throw some big prawns into the wok and you'd attract these folks like magnet).
Getting there by Public Transport
You can take the bus to Macalister Road, and walk about ten minute to the coffee shop on Lorong Selamat.
Rapid Penang Buses 10, 101 and 104 stop at Macalister Road. If you are going there by car, note that it is very difficult to find parking space especially during lunch hour.
