Kafe Sri Nibong Sai Tou Fish Ball Koay Teow Thng (16 December 2017)
Kafe Sri Nibong Koay Teow Thng is a popular
koay teow thng stall in
Sungai Nibong, Penang. It operates out of
Kafe Sri Nibong (GPS: 5.33697, 100.29852), formerly known as Wah Garden. Officially known as the sai3to1 fishball koay teow thng, the stall has been operating for the past decade. It begins operating early in the morning, and continues on to lunch. After a break, it opens for the evening at 7:00 pm.
The Kafe Sri Nibong Koay Teow Thng stall was one of my favourite koay teow thng during the time I was working in the Bayan Lepas FIZ. My colleagues and I often come here for lunch. I have also visited it during weekends, and found that the coffee shop was absolutely jam-packed with patrons. Due to its popularity, there is usually a long waiting time to receive your order of the koay teow thng. For this particular reason, in the past few years, I have stopped coming here during lunch time, but we do visit it from time to time during dinner time, when the customers are fewer, and thus the delivery is faster. Having said that, I recently realised that we haven't visited this koay teow thng at all throughout this year (2014), so we decided to pay it another visit during dinner time.

It has been many months since my last visit to Kafe Sri Nibong, and even longer still since my last review entry about its koay teow thng. My wife and I decided to go there to try it out. We ordered two big bowls. Right now it has risen to RM6.80. Today's koay teow thng, in our opinion, was not salty enough. In previous visits, it had been too salty. Perhaps customers have fed back to the hawker that the soup was too salty, which led to this drastic reduction of salt. Other than that, all the ingredients are still the same. Only the price is different.

I saw that the stall is now being manned by a young man, probably a relative of the lady who did the cooking. He probably man the stall for the "evening shift". I have visited the stall at different times of the day, including in the early morning, and have seen different people doing the cooking. In any case, we placed our order for two large koay teow thng.
This is how my bowl of koay teow thng looks like:

Different cook has different "hand", and thus the portion size differs. In the case of this young man, the amount of koay teow given to us was a lot. Too much in fact, that neither my wife nor I could finish our koay teow. If the lady cooked for us, the amount of koay teow would be less. Perhaps young men eat more! We regretted ordering the large bowl, and told ourselves, on our next visit, we'll just order the regular bowl.
The amount of stuff in that bowl of koay teow thng is consistent with how much we had before, except only the koay teow was too much. One drawback of my bowl of koay teow thng was that the egg was a bit too raw. Perhaps he misunderstood me during the ordering, so I couldn't say he is entirely at fault. I had ordered for my wife's bowl the egg to be well cooked and mine to be half cooked. However the egg in my bowl was less than half cooked. Some parts of the egg white was too raw for my liking. In future I will ask for the egg of both bowls to be well cooked.
Food Rating: Kafe Sri Nibong Koay Teow Thng
18 October, 2014: B+
Parting Comments: We were a little bit disappointed with today's order, due to what I have described above. If everything had been to our complete satisfaction, and based on our past experience with this stall, I would have given it an A- or even an A. I do intend to revisit this stall in another time in the future to reevaluate the rating I have given.
