Timothy Tye Seared Chicken Salad, Kai Curry BarSeared Chicken Salad, Kai Curry Bar (12 May 2016)

Kai Curry Bar at Phuah Hin Leong Road has just introduced their line of salad, so my wife and I decided to make a trip there. Since our first visit, we have gotten to know Mag, the lady who runs in, and become firm friends with her. I love the idea of having salads on the menu, as I prefer to reduce the amount of carbohydrate intake during week days. This makes it difficult for me to eat out.

We started our meal, as usual with the Japanese Potato Salad, an appetizer enhancer. One is the katsubushi onigiri (rice balls wrapped with seaweed) and served with gobo kinpira (simmered burdock roots). Mag told me that this is a typical household dish in Japan.

We also enjoy two other side dishes. One is the pork hamburg while other is the menchi katsu, minced pork cutlet.

The main dishes we had that evening were a salad dish and a rice dish. Many people think that salad means all vegetables, but of course that's not true. Salads can contain meat too. Kai Curry Bar's Seared Chicken Salad has a big piece of seared boneless thigh on a bed of various vegetables, and served with a dressing of black sesame and roasted white sesame vinaigrette.

The other main dish we enjoyed was the Chicken Katsu Curry Cheese Rice. Although I do not take much of the rice, I enjoy the chicken cutlet and its gravy, the Japanese curry, with a generous amount of cheese.

It was once again a wonderful meal, made even more delightful with the wonderful company when Mag was able to vacate the kitchen to join us for a moment - until another group of diners arrive and she has to scurry back to work.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.

To get to know me better, do follow me on Facebook!
