Kampung Melayu Flats (GPS: 5.40018, 100.28462) in Air Itam is one of the oldest low-cost high-rise public housing projects in Penang. Comprising 2 blocks of 16-storey apartments, the Kampung Melayu flats were built in the late 1950s. Each unit of Kampung Melayu Flats has two bedrooms and one bathroom. Total built up area per unit is 550 sqft. Presently (August 2013) each unit is going for around RM80,000.

Facilities

Facilities are limited to communal parking and general maintenance.

The nearest market is the makeshift market at Kampung Melayu Flats itself. Other markets in the vicinity include the Ayer Itam Market and the Farlim Market. The nearest petrol station is the Shell along Thean Teik Road. The nearest schools are Sekolah Kebangsaan Sri Aman and Sekolah Kebangsaan Air Itam. The nearest hospital is the Penang General Hospital, though the nearest public health clinic is the Klinik Kesihatan Air Itam along Jalan Angsana. The nearest shopping centre is Sunshine Farlim.

The Kampung Melayu Flats are just 5.7 km from Komtar, making them moderately near the city centre.

Traffic

The Kampung Melayu Flats are located within the congested Air Itam area, and the main road to town often sees heavy traffic.

Public Transport

The nearest bus stop is along Jalan Pisang Rastali. The bus stop is served by Rapid Penang bus 204.
