Kampung Pisang, Air Itam, Penang (4 June 2011)
Kampung Pisang is one of the original Malay villages in the
Air Itam area. Named after the banana groves in the area, Kampung Pisang is located to the south of
Sungai Air Itam, and is adjacent to Kampung Melayu. While once predominantly Malay, Kampung Pisang has today been developed and has evolved to take on a more Chinese character.
Jalan Kampung Pisang is the main road through Kampung Pisang. It joins
Jalan Air Itam to the west (before it becomes
Jalan Paya Terubong) with Jalan Thean Teik, behind Sunshine Farlim. The other minor roads within the Kampung Pisang are all given names inspired by the namesake fruit, among them Jalan Pisang Tanduk, Jalan Pisang Raja, Jalan Pisang Nangka, Jalan Pisang Emas, Jalan Pisang Embun and Jalan Pisang Rastali.
