Kampung Sungai Rusa, Balik Pulau (16 February 2013)


Kampung Sungai Rusa (GPS: 5.37987, 100.21375) is a small Malay village located between Balik Pulau and Kuala Sungai Pinang. The village straddles the main road that runs between Air Putih and Kuala Sungai Pinang. The main road, called Jalan Sungai Rusa, continues on north to the junction with Jalan Pantai Acheh.

Kampung Sungai Rusa is one of many villages on the west coast of Penang Island where the pace of life is much slower than on the east coast. Nonetheless, in the last few years, the area has seen rapid housing development, as former farmland make way for housing estates. Urban amenities is very much lagging behind the east coast. It will still be some time before this part of Penang Island enjoys the amenities that people on the east coast take for granted.

Getting there

The main road, Jalan Sungai Rusa, is served by Rapid Penang bus 404 and 501 which pass along the main road at Kampung Sungai Rusa.
