Kang Beef House 江祖傳牛肉小鎮 (GPS: 5.3918, 100.31353) is an eatery at Perak Road, Penang. It specialises in gu bak koay teow, a Chinese-style beef noodle soup, as well as other beef-based dishes. Hence you can order beef fried rice here, crispy beef balls as well as stir-fried beef in black pepper.
Kang Beef House has its main entrance facing Perak Road while a back entrance faces Jalan Jelutong. Its address is however at 474 Jalan Jelutong. The restaurant is open daily except Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:30 pm for the lunch crowd and from 4:30 pm to 10:00 pm for dinner.
I find that the restaurant is clean and hygienic, compared to other places serving gu bak koay teow. I also appreciate being in an air-conditioned environment with air circulation.

It has been over four years since our first and only visit to Kang Beef House in 2012 (see below). We happened to be visiting someone in the area, and so decided to go there for lunch. We were quite early (11:45am) and was the first customer (the shop opens at 11:30am).
We ordered the RM10 bowl. This is how it looks like:

How do I like it this time around. Yes, I do like it, perhaps more than on my first visit. My wife commented that the soup is still more watery compared to the beef koay teow at other places, but I am okay with that. At RM10, the amount of stuff isn't really much (and we were already planning where else to go to get something else to eat - we ended up buying the nasi kunyit set from Eaton.)
On the whole, I am quite satisfied with the beef koay teow at Kang Beef House. Unlike many places selling this dish, Kang Beef House is very clean. We might be returning from time to time.

The lady running the shop told me that they are opened at night with cooked-to-order dishes. I photographed the menu to give you an idea what's available here.

And how's the gu bak koay teow? The taste is a bit bland and the soup quite clear compared to other places. I have discussed this on Facebook and found the same comment from over gu bak koay teow lovers. In essence, we prefer a stronger taste to gu bak koay teow. So while Kang Beef House may attract its own gu bak koay teow lovers, it will not dethrone established gu bak koay teow stalls such as the one at Kafe Dua Lapan Dua Lapan in Perak Road and Kedai Kopi Lam Ah at Beach Street/Chulia Street junction.

About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
