Kedai Kopi Kong Thai Lai on Leith Street, still using the blinds from its former Hutton Lane premises (1 January 2017)
Kedai Kopi Kong Thai Lai (GPS: 5.42043, 100.33325) is a Chinese coffee shop on
Leith Street in
George Town, Penang. Occupying a pre-war shophouse along the street, Kong Thai Lai is one of those few remaining old-style George Town coffee shops that were once the place for the city's white collar workers to partake their breakfast. Originally located along
Hutton Lane until 2016, the coffee shop used to be a favorite haunt for a number of local tycoons such as the late Tan Sri Loh Boon Siew and now Hong Kong-based tycoon Tan Sri Robert Kuok.
Nowadays it is more a watering hole for retirees to while away the day. In addition to drinks, Kong Thai Lai offers half-boiled eggs, toasts and other similar breakfast fare.
