Kedai Kopi Leong Huat Seng (GPS: 5.30202, 100.27537) is a hawker centre in Sungai Tiram, Penang. I have been there once before but couldn't remember much about it. Then recently, it was one of the places recommended on my Penang Hawker Food Facebook Group. Since I have not been there for many years, my wife and I decided to go there for dinner.

When we arrived at Kedai Kopi Leong Huat Seng, it was already 7:40pm. We couldn't find roadside parking spot, so we parked a distance away and walked. Seeing the number of cars along the road, I felt excited that the coffee shop must have a lot of hawker stalls.

When we got there, I saw that there weren't as many stalls as I had expected. In fact, there were only a few stalls selling staple food. There were two stalls selling fish head bee hoon, and one selling sar hor fun. These are the ones doing roaring business. Apart from that, there were also stalls selling accompanying dishes such as lor bak, belachan chicken and jiuhu engchye, among others. The fish meat bee hoon stall near the petrol station is particularly popular, but popular means there's going to be a long waiting time, so we decided not to try it.

In the end, we ordered two plates of sar hor fun, and also some lor bak. The lor bak was not bad. I quite enjoyed it.

The two plates of sar hor fun with egg was RM11. So that's RM5.50 each. I remember seeing at the stall the price list saying small at RM5 and big at RM6, so they are charging us somewhere in between. This is how it looks like.

How does it taste? Not so good. After the first mouthful, my wife pronounced that it is not salty enough. After a few more mouthfuls, she said that it was pretty lousy. It was certainly not as good as the sar hor fun I have had elsewhere, and I suppose people would order it out of lack of choice.

On the whole, I found the fare at Kedai Kopi Leong Huat Seng to be below my expectation. I had expected to see many more stalls operating, but quite a number were closed that day. For years I have not been to Kedai Kopi Leong Huat Seng. Before I came for this visit, I thought I had left out a great coffee shop, but having visited, I felt I didn't miss much.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
