Kedai Kopi Low Eng Hoo, Penang (29 September 2012)
Kedai Kopi Low Eng Hoo (GPS: 5.4173, 100.32493), formerly Kafe Chuan Kee, is one of the main coffee shops along Lorong Selamat in George Town, Penang. Located at 84 Lorong Selamat, it was from this coffee shop that the famous Lorong Selamat Char Koay Teow built its name before relocating (to its own premises at Kafe Heng Huat). Nonetheless the coffee shop still has a stable of hawker stalls selling, among others, fried oyster, Hokkien mee, curry mee, Lor Mee, chee cheong fun and koay teow thng, among others.
The coffee shop has two famous hawkers. There's the Goggle Man Char Koay Teow stall and also the Meat Floss Lady Ke Ai, who is famous for her Hokkien rhyming slangs. Kedai Kopi Low Eng Hoo itself is famous for its ice kacang.
Getting there by public transport
The nearest bus stop is along Macalister Road, a ten-minute walk away. Rapid Penang Buses 10, 101 and 104 stop there. Note that it's very difficult to find parking space especially during lunch hour.

Goggle Man Char Koay Teow
Goggle Man Char Koay Teow is a popular char koay teow stall in George Town, Penang. It takes its name from the hawker, who wears goggles when frying the koay teow. The Goggle Man Char Koay Teow even has a franchise in Las Vegas, having taught someone there to fry the way he does.

The Meat Floss Lady
Another famous hawker at Kedai Kopi Low Eng Hoo is Ke Ai, better known as the Meat Floss Lady. Her celebrity stems from her being able to do rapidfire rhymes in Penang Hokkien.
I never knew that she was selling at Kedai Kopi Low Eng Hoo until I visited the coffee shop this year with my wife and childhood friend Veronica, and I was delighted that she came into the shop. As a result of our interaction, I created the video below.

About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
