My visit to Kedai Makanan Teow Kee
I had the pleasure of dining at Kedai Makanan Teow Kee on 3 January, 2017. My wife and I were invited there by a friend, who is the friend of the proprietress, Miss Chuah. We arrived around six thirty on that rainy evening. Arrayed were so many different dishes, which can be taken be rice or porridge. My friend was eager for me to try our Miss Chuah's dishes, and got the workers to bring to us an amazing selection, in small saucers, which were spread all over the large table which we occupied. I think we had some thirty different dishes in front of us, and that's less than half of all the available dishes.
I learned from Miss Chuah that she started her business here at Chai Leng Park on 2 June, 2014, though she was already in the food business before that. Asked why she chose Chai Leng Park, she said that the rental there was quite low, while she could cash in on the lunch crowd. As most of her customers come from the surrounding offices and factories, she only operates her shop Mondays to Fridays, and is closed on public holidays.
How does she prepare all the dishes? With help from her battalion of workers, of course. Does she have the fresh produce delivered to her? Apparently not. She heads to the market very early in the morning to purchase the produce. But why don't have them simply delivered to her? Because, she said, she wants the chance to select the freshest, nicest looking meats and vegetables.
We started our meal with porridge. We were also recommended to try the pumpkin barley drink, which is also tasty. With so many dishes in front of us, we were spoilt for choice what to eat first. But as far as I'm concerned, everything was tasty. Before long, I have finished my bowl of porridge, and was still lots of food in front of me, so my friend called for me a plate of unhusked rice. It tasted very good, and I demolished the rice in no time. Then, got another plate of unhusked rice, sharing some of it with my wife.
Needless to say, I was very full and the end of the meal, but completely satisfied. I wish that this porridge shop is on Penang Island, then I could have visited it regularly. To visit Kedai Makanan Teow Kee, I had to brave the evening rush hour through the Penang Bridge. It was rainy yesterday, and the traffic was heavy, though luckily the jam was not too bad (I have had worse). I thank my friend for introducing me to this shop, but he thanked me back for willing to make the journey to try the food. I certainly have no regret for making the trip.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
