Toon Keng Tong Khoo Kongsi, Beach Street, George Town (22 May 2011)

Khoo Si Toon Keng Tong Kongsi 敦敬堂 (GPS: 5.41237, 100.33563), or Toon Keng Tong Khoo Kongsi, is one of the lesser known branches of the Khoo clan association. It is located along Beach Street, a short distance from the Malay Street Ghaut junction.

The clan association was formed by five Khoo brothers, Cheng Pang, Chneh Pang, Goh Pang, Mooi Pang and Soo Pang, who were the descendants of Kong Teong Kong, who in turn was the 5th generation descendant of Chian Eng Kong, the progenitor of the Khoo clan. Among the most illustrious clansmen from this association include Dato' Seri Khoo Keat Siew, who was the 22nd generation descendant through the Cheng Pang line.

Khoo Si Toon Keng Tong Kongsi occupies a shophouse with an ornately decorated façe. As with nearby Boon San Tong Khoo Kongsi, it is an offshoot of the Khoo clan. While the Khoo clans trace their ancestry to a common progenitor established at Leong San Tong, Khoo Si Toon Keng Tong Kongsi was established by a branch of third-generation descendants.

Khoo Si Toon Keng Tong Kongsi itself is further split into five branches, based on the five founding brothers, namely Yeoh Teik Tong Khoo Kongsi (Chneh Pang), Seow Tek Tong Khoo Kongsi (Cheng Pang), Sin Teik Tong Khoo Kongsi (Goh Pang), Swee Teik Tong Khoo Kongsi (Mooi Pang) and Swee Thong Tong Khoo Kongsi (Soo Pang). Each trustees are drawn from each of the five branches.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
