Larut Road (Malay: Jalan Larut) is a major road in
George Town, Penang. It runs from
Northam Road (
Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah) to Burmah Road. Built during the later part of the 19th century, Larut Road was named after the region of Perak that yielded enormous quantity of tin, propelling the fortune of Penang with it.
The site at the junction of Larut Road and Hutton Lane was known in Tamil as Thanni Salai
1 meaning "water road". There was a tank here that supplied water for sale.
