Lengkok Nipah, Sungai Dua (28 February 2013)
Lengkok Nipah is a main road in
Sungai Dua, Penang. It passes through the housing developments of Taman Jubilee and
Taman Lip Sin. The road connects
Jalan Sungai Dua to
Jalan Bukit Gambir. It forms a number of junctions with minor roads, among them
Lengkok Nipah 4,
Lengkok Nipah 2,
Jalan Nipah,
Lorong Nipah 3 and
Lorong Nipah.
As with Jalan Nipah, Lengkok Nipah was named after the palm tree
Nipa fruticans which is often found in wetlands and swampy places. The Lengkok Nipah area itself used to be vegetable farms before it was developed into the present housing estates. The rural houses began making way for the urban development in the late 1970s, accelerating in the 80s and 90s.
