Lim Lean Teng Road, Penang (8 December 2012)
Lim Lean Teng Road is a road in the Green Lane area of George Town. It is the road that runs from Green Lane to
Terengganu Road. Branching off from Lim Lean Teng Road are
Han Chiang Road,
Dungun Road and
Medan Terengganu.
Lim Lean Teng Road was named after an imminent Teochew from the
Teochew Association of Penang. Mr Lim was instrumental in founding the Han Chiang High School which lies along the road named in his honour. The school was founded on
10 October 1919 - the anniversary day of the liberation of China - and was named Han Chiang after the river flowing through the Teochew home village of Chaozhou, in eastern Guangdong Province, China. Similarly, the ancestral temple of the Teochew in Penang is also called Han Chiang, and spelled Han Jiang.
