31 July, 2019
According to a reading, Mr Lim Yew Kuan, based on information obtained from his friend, "a Scottish medical practitioner, Dr. Wilson, owned a property called Kelso House at 9 Lim Mah Chye Road. Dr. Wilson was practicing medicine with another Scotsman called Dr. Esslemont at George Town Dispensary at the corner of
Beach Street and
China Street Ghaut. Dr. and Mrs. Esslemont were living then in a house at
Skipton Road, off
Scotland Road. Mrs. Esslemont was actively involved in the Penang Girl Guides in the late 1960s to the early 1970s. Some Old Girls of Convent Light Street who were Girl Guides in those years may still remember Mrs. Esslemont. In the mid 1970s, or thereabouts, Dr. and Mrs. Esslemont left Penang to resettle in Australia.
