Lim See Sai Hoe Tong Province Wellesley (15 August 2015)
Lim See Sai Hoe Tong Province Wellesley (GPS: 5.41074, 100.37557) is an association of the Lim clan in Butterworth on the Penang Mainland. The clan temple building is located at Lorong Kubur.
The Sai Hoe Tong clan association traces its beginnings to the Lim clan's annual ritual of worshipping Mah1cor4 (Chinese goddess MazuMatsu/Ma-tsu; Traditional Chinese: 媽祖, Simplified Chinese: 妈祖 and patron goddess of seafarers), the deified personality who was born in the year 960, incidentally of the Lim (林) clan. The early Lim settlers in Province Wellesley had already carried out the ritual of worshipping the goddess on her birthday1. This was carried out at the ritual leader's house.
In 1973, during the gathering to once again worship the deity, the Lim clansmen hatched the idea of erecting a more permanent building for that purpose. The idea received the support of the members of the clan, leading to the formation of a building committee entrusted with the job of fund raising. At the second meeting of the fund-raising committee, they discussed the registration of the clan association, which was eventually named Lim See Sai Hoe Tong Province Wellesley, and was duly registered on 27 October, 1974.
From an initial membership of a hundred clansmen, the association grew rapidly until their original clubhouse could no longer contain them all. The members then decided to build a bigger building. This led to the purchase of the land on Lorong Kubur, and the construction of the present clan association building, which was completed in 1985. The Lim clansmen of Province Wellesley were indebted to their fellow clansmen from all over the country who contributed generously in realising their goal.
Today, the birthday of the deity Mah1cor4 continues to be one of the two feast days at the Lim See Sai Hoe Tong Province Wellesley. The other major celebration is the annual dinner held on every winter solstice.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
