Limousine (GPS: 5.41508, 100.33488) is a steel-rod sculpture installed on the wall of the shophouse facing
Carnarvon Lane, at the junction of
Carnarvon Street, in
George Town, Penang. The sculpture depicts a disgruntled employer looking at the handiwork of his employee who was making a model car.
The Carnarvon Street area is renowned for having bookshops, coffin shops and shops welling funerary paraphernalia, which includes paper-and-wood replicas of items to be burned for the afterlife. This art for the dead is today itself a dying art, and the "Limousine" sculpture captures the lighter side of the craft. The "Limousine" sculpture is based on a caricature by
Tang Mun Kian for the Marking George Town project.
