Here I am trying out Line Clear in 2016 (13 March 2016)
After the Line Clear operations passed to its rightful business operator, Abdul Latiff Ali Thulkarnai, on 15 February, 2016, I decided to pay the premises a visit, on 13 March, 2016. Until then, I have always dismissed Line Clear as one of the most over rated nasi kandar in Penang. But after I tried the nasi kandar under this present operator, I felt I might have misjudged the stall all this while.
That day, my wife and I arrived at Line Clear at around 12:45 pm. There was a line of diners queuing up to order, but the line moved swiftly, and we were able to reach the head of the line within five minutes. I was not familiar with what to order at Line Clear, not having been here in recent years.
I wanted brinjal, but they don't have brinjal, so I settled for beef, fish, ladies fingers and half a salted egg yolk. My wife had chicken, ladies fingers and one hard boiled egg. My plate was RM8.00, hers was RM11.10. We only ordered ais kosong. Later, we found that our total was RM19.50, meaning the ais kosong was just 40 sen. As we had two glasses of ais kosong, they may have undercharged us by one glass.
Upon trying the nasi kandar, I was surprised that it was good. The gravy was thick and does have the oomph to it. It made me wonder, have I had misjudged Line Clear all these years? Of course, Line Clear is such a famous brand in Penang, it doesn't need my endorsement. But I couldn't help, not only liking it, but actually loving it.
Of course, my taste may differ from yours. But the nasi kandar that I tasted at Line Clear on 13 March 2016 is one of the best nasi kandar I have ever had for a while. But just take a look at my plate, and my wife's plate - doesn't it look delicious to you? Both my wife and I enjoyed it very much.

Later on, as I learned more of the Line Clear saga, it began to dawn on me that perhaps the nasi kandar as prepared by Abdul Latiff Ali Thulkarnai's team is more agreeable to me than the nasi kandar prepared by the previous operator. If I had visited Line Clear prior to 15 February 2016, I might have given a different story. On the other hand, I have not tried the earlier Line Clear operator's nasi kandar, so I could not pass judgement on it, and my liking the present operator's nasi kandar carries no malice against the earlier operator.
It should be noted here that, just because there are now several nasi kandar outlets called "Line Clear", the only one that matters - the jewel in the crown, so to speak - is the one in that dingy alleyway off Penang Road. All the stakeholders know that, which is why they went on a lengthy tug-of-war to run the business here. Everywhere else is only Line Clear by name.
Since this write up, I have again returned to Line Clear once, where I bought to go, and now I look forward to visiting the Deen Maju nasi kandar, which is getting great reviews, to do a comparison.

About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
