Lok Lok (5 October 2012)
Lok Lok, or skewered hot pot, is a hawker food popular in Penang as well as other cities in Malaysia. The stall selling lok lok displays a wide variety of skewered items which patrons select and have them cooked in the communal pot. Once cooked, the item is then dipped into a variety of sauces or dips before being enjoyed. The skewers are often colour-coded to denote price.
At some hawker centres, dedicated tables are set aside for lok lok, so that patrons can enjoy the food sitting down. The boiling pot is set at the centre of the table, and the array of uncooked items are brought out and arranged across the table. In a way, lok lok resembles steamboat, the other popular hot pot dish, except that all the items are skewered.
