It has been quite some time since I last went to have the Lorong Seratus Tahun Curry Mee. When I check the last photos that I took of it, I saw that it was back in 2013. That means I haven't been there for almost three years already. So today my wife and I decided to go there for breakfast.
This is in fact our second attempt. We went to Lorong Seratus Tahun yesterday but couldn't find parking space, so ended up having dim sum at Restoran Zim Sum (which we enjoyed tremendously anyway).
This time we arrived much earlier, around 8:20 am in the morning, and was able to park quite near the coffee shop. All the tables at the coffee shop were still unoccupied. We selected an outdoor spot. Not sure whether it's the spot, or the fact that we are having a prawn dish, but we were quite pestered by a fly that hovered over our table throughout our meal, and had to be shooed away several times.
I learn this morning that the curry mee now costs RM5.50 per bowl. There is also a RM9.50 bowl with extra bowl, but we felt RM5.50 is good enough for our breakfast. This is how our meal looks like:
Lorong Seratus Tahun Curry Mee (23 April 2016)
I see that they have changed from using the porcelain bowl to using these black plastic bowl. Perhaps they feel it makes the curry me stand out more, but I do miss having the curry mee in the traditional bowl. As before, you have a free run on how much sambal we put in the curry mee. The coffee shop used to be packed even as early as this, but it is no longer so today. After our arrival, only a couple more table were filled up.
My wife did not have a high opinion of the Lorong Seratus Tahun Curry Mee. She felt it was too salty. Also, she felt the lady assistant at the stall was a bit surly, which I tend to agree also.
I personally thought that the curry mee taste is not bad. It is more or less the same as what I remember it to be. But I felt that the price has risen quite a lot, which explains why there are fewer customers now. People tend to be very price sensitive and fickle. Maybe the taste is not quite up it what it used to be. Certainly, after having it today, there isn't a pull for me to return any time soon. If it were go great, I would be longing to come back immediately. But I didn't get that feeling after today's meal.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
