The Lorong Seratus Tahun Curry Mee has been my favourite Curry Mee in Penang for a long while. As the name suggests, it operates out of the coffee shop at the junction of Lorong Seratus Tahun with Naning Street. The address is 50 Lorong Seratus Tahun.

The curry mee stall at Lorong Seratus Tahun is said to have been operating since 1960, when it was begun by the father of the present operator. It is available every day until lunch. You are allowed free flow of the chilli paste, which is placed on the table. Ingredients in the curry mee includes fish balls, cuttlefish, cubed blood, prawns and mint leaves.

My visits to the Lorong Seratus Tahun Curry Mee

After a few years of not coming here, my wife and I decided to give the Lorong Seratus Tahun Curry Mee another try. We arrived very early, before the stall began operating, and so had to wait a bit before the business commenced. We were the first table to receive our order. Since we were still under movement control order, they no longer leave the chilli paste on the table for patrons to scoop, but put it on the spoon for each bowl.

I can't describe it but I feel that the taste is not as nice as it was years ago. I do not know why, considering all the ingredients are still there. Maybe my tastebud had changed, maybe my expectation was too high. I am not sure. I will come back in another time in the future, to give it another try, to see if I still felt the same way.
