Madras lane, George Town, Penang (13 January 2011)
Madras Lane, or
Lorong Madras (Traditional Chinese: 油較路, Simplified Chinese: 油较路), is a lane in
George Town. It is today a one-way lane with traffic flowing from
Macalister Road to
Burmah Road. Madras Lane was named after the city of Madras in India, now known as
Chennai. The significance of Madras during the British colonial era is that it served as the British administrative centre.
Among the sights along Madras Lane is the
Madras Lane Chinese Methodist Church. TM (Telekom Malaysia) has its Penang head office fronting Burmah Road and along Madras Lane.
Two minor streets off Madras Road are
Jalan Talipon and
Ong Chong Keng Street.

Getting there
Rapid Penang Bus 10, 11,
103 and
104 pass by Jalan Burma. From the bus stop, walk to Madras Lane.
