Cititel Main Street Cafe Japanese Buffet Lunch (12 March 2016)
My wife and I love Japanese food, so when we heard that Main Street Cafe at Cititel Penang is revamping its buffet lunch to put in a Japanese buffet. It was at just RM57 nett, which we find to be quite a steal, so we immediately got a table. We arrived at about 12:00 noon and was ushered to our table by the friendly waitress (whose name I didn't catch). But my name she knows, as does all the other people who served me that evening.
We found out that it was not entirely Japanese. It is really an international buffet with a Japanese theme. So there are many Japanese dishes, but also international fare, ranging from local Malay and Chinese dishes, right across to quesadilla and minestrone soup.
I had the pleasure of meeting restaurant manager Kennie Loo, who confirms that this is a new menu they have introduced at Cititel Penang. In fact, they have two sets of menu which they rotate for the buffet lunch of Saturdays and Sundays.
There is too much items for me to try, so during buffets like this, I zoom in on what I like to eat, and return for seconds. Personally I do not care much for the maki sushi, but I like the chawan mushi, and I love the fish head curry during this buffet. While you might not say that fish head curry is anything Japanese, in this instance, the fish head curry uses salmon, and it is absolutely delicious. The salmon flesh goes well with the curry. The flesh is soft and very tasty, so I kept on returning to this dish.
As with many buffets, I tend to overeat, to my big regret, for I felt so full leaving Cititel that evening. So much so I didn't have anything for dinner that day.

On my first round, I simply took a little bit of this and that. The salmon fish head curry is the highlight for me. (12 March 2016)

About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
