New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE, E01) (3 May 2009)
New Klang Valley Expressway, NKVE, (E1) is a major expressway in Malaysia. It runs from Bukit Raja in Selangor to Jalan Duta. It allows people heading between the north and south of Peninsula Malaysia to bypass entering the Kuala Lumpur city centre. The expressway is approximately 36.2 kilometers in length, with kilometer 0 at the Bukit Raja Toll Plaza, km 35 at the Jalan Duta Interchange, and the Bukit Raja Interchange at km -1.2.
The New Klang Valley Expressway channels the traffic from the
North-South Expressway Northern Route (E1) through to the
ELITE Highway (E6)and onwards to the
North-South Expressway Southern Route (E2), and vice versa. Rather confusingly, the NKVE carries the same expressway code of E1 as the North-South Expressway Northern Route.
Thanks to the people who name the highways, the NKVE stretch between the Bukit Lanjan Interchange and the Jalan Duta Interchange is also labelled as the North South Expressway on some maps, and as the Jalan Duta Sungai Buloh Expressway on others. Unfortunately in Malaysia, things are done to ensure that they don't make sense. As you drive that stretch, you don't see any of the Exit numbers mentioned - just as well, as they would only confuse you more.
Please view the map below. I hope it helps you make sense of the geography of the expressway.
Exit 101: Bukit Raja Interchange
The
Bukit Raja Interchange is a trumpet interchange. This is the start of the NKVE. Bear west to enter the New/North Klang Straits Bypass (E30) which goes to
Klang,
Port Klang and the Bukit Raja Industrial Estate. Bear south to go to the Federal Highway (Federal Route 2), from where you can bear west to
Klang, or east to
Shah Alam and onwards to
Kuala Lumpur.
Exit 102: Setia Alam Interchange
The
Setia Alam Interchange is a T interchange. You exit here to go to the township of Setia Alam. This interchange is also known as the Bukit Jelutong Interchange. It is near the Bukit Cerakah Forest Reserve, where the Bukit Cahaya Sri Alam Agricultural Park is located.
Exit 103: Shah Alam Interchange
The
Shah Alam Interchange is a massive interchange. It is the convergence of the New Klang Valley Expressway with the
ELITE Highway (E6) from the south and the
Guthrie Corridor Expressway (E35) from the north.
If you are coming from the ELITE Highway, you take Exit 601B to enter the western branch of the NKVE, to proceed towards Klang; or Exit 601C to enter the eastern branch of the NKVE, to proceed towards
Subang,
Kuala Lumpur or
Ipoh.
If you are coming from the Guthrie Corridor, you take Exit 3508 to enter the NKVE or ELITE Highway. The interchange on between the Guthrie Corridor Expressway with the NKVE and ELITE is also called the Bukit Jelutong-NKVE Interchange.
Exit 106: Damansara Interchange
The
Damansara Interchange is a trumpet interchange. Exit here to the Damansara Link, which is the western arm of the
Sprint Expressway. It goes right through the Damansara area on the east side of the NKVE.
Exit 107: Kota Damansara Interchange
The
Damansara Interchange is a trumpet interchange. Exit here to Persiaran Kenanga in Kota Damansara. At the end of Persiaran Kenanga, you can turn left, take Persiaran Surian eastwards to
Mutiara Damansara, to reach
IPC Shopping Centre, IKEA and
The Curve and then enter the Damansara-Puchong Expressway, LDP, (E11).
Exit 108: Bukit Lanjan Interchange
The
Bukit Lanjan Interchange is a directional T interchange. This is where the
North-South Expressway Northern Route (E1) merges with the New Klang Valley Expressway and continues towards the Jalan Duta Toll Plaza towards Kuala Lumpur.
Selangor - Kuala Lumpur border
Jalan Duta Toll Plaza (19 March 2010)
Jalan Duta Toll Plaza
Exit 110: Jalan Duta-DUKE Interchange
The
Jalan Duta-DUKE Interchange is a directional T interchange. This is the interchange that connects the NKVE to the new DUKE Expressway (E33). At this junction, if you go straight on, you enter the DUKE Expressway, which takes you to Jalan Kuching, Jalan Ipoh, and onwards to
Batu Caves,
Genting Highlands and
Kuantan. To stay on the NKVE, you have to take the exit ramp (talk about confusion!) and continue soundbound. This section of the NKVE is also known as the Jalan Duta-Sungai Buloh Highway. The exit number here is Exit 110, but you won't see it posted on the interchange. Instead, you will see Exit 3301, is the exit number on the DUKE Expressway referencing the same interchange.
Exit 112 Mont Kiara Interchange (2 January 2010)
Exit 112: Mont Kiara Interchange
The
Mont Kiara Interchange is a directional T interchange. This is the interchange between the NKVE and the Kerinchi Link, one of the arms of the Sprint Expressway. You take Exit 112 to go to
Mont Kiara, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Sri Hartamas and
Damansara. If you are coming from the Kerinchi Link, then you enter the NKVE by exiting the Kerinchi Link at Exit 2303.
Exit 111 Jalan Duta Interchange (2 January 2010)
Exit 111: Jalan Duta Interchange
The
Jalan Duta Interchange is a directional T interchange. This is the last interchange on the NKVE before it continues as Jalan Duta into Kuala Lumpur. At this end point of the NKVE, you can either exit
north to link with Jalan Duta, on the way to Jalan Kuching and onwards to
Jalan Ipoh (Federal Route 1), which continues north as the Old Trunk Road, or exit
south to head towards Kuala Lumpur city centre.
