Federal Highway is a highway through the Klang Valley. Although it is a controlled access road, it is regarded as a "highway" under the Malaysian road system, rather than an "expressway", and is given the code Federal Route 2 (although that route number is also applied to Persiaran Sultan Ibrahim beyond Federal Highway). Nevertheless exit numbering was introduced in 2007, giving Federal Highway the same exit numbering system as Malaysian expressways, albeit not prefixed with an "E".

The Federal Highyway was originally completed on 14 January 1959 and was known as the Kuala Lumpur-Klang Highway. Then, following the departure of Singapore, a decision was taken to turn Port Swettenham into the main port of the country, in place of Singapore port. This necessitated the upgrading of the Kuala Lumpur-Klang Highway. Construction began on 9 August 1965 and the highwas was renamed the Federal Highway.

Federal Highway starts at the junction (now interchange) between Jalan Syed Putra (formerly Lornie Road) and the Old Klang Road. The junction has been upgraded a few times and is today a multi-level interchange, following the completion of the East-West Link Expressway (E37). At its western end, Federal Highway continues as Persiaran Sultan Ibrahim in Klang.

There are two toll plazas on the Federal Highway. At the Sungai Rasau Toll Plaza, the toll is RM1.00 for private cars, RM1.30 for vans and small lorries, RM2.00 for large trucks (3 axles and more) and RM0.40 for taxis and buses. At the Batu Tiga Toll Plaza, the toll is RM1.10 for private cars, RM1.50 for vans and small lorries, RM2.20 for large trucs (3 axles and more), RM0.40 for taxis and RM0.50 for buses. The toll plazas are cashless since 22 November 2014; toll can only be paid electronically, using the PLUSMiles cards, Touch 'n Go cards and SmartTAG devices.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
