The Federal Routes of Malaysia are the national roads in the country. In Peninsular Malaysia, these roads are under the Malaysian Public Works Department, or JKR, while in Sabah and Sarawak, the Public Works Department is under the respective state governments. Each federal route has a number (which is not necessarily unique, as occasionally, two or more federal routes in different states might carry the same federal route number). The federal routes are denoted by a highway shield which is chrome yellow, with the number in black.
