Sarah FC Lee is a cookbook author, best known for co-authoring the book Asian Pies together with her friend Evonne Lyn Lee. On our recent visit to Kluang, Johor, my wife and I had the pleasure of attending one of Sarah's cooking classes. It was held at her home, and was attended by cooking enthusiasts from our trip.
On this occasion, Sarah and Evonne taught us how to make Babi Pongteh Shepherd's Pie as well as Durian Tarts. The lesson began in the kitchen, where Sarah showed us how she cooked Babi Pongteh, a pork dish that has its origin in Malacca. The kitchen filled with the wonderful aroma of the stewed or braised pork, and induced in my some hunger pangs.
While waiting for the Babi Pongteh to cook, we adjourned to the living room. There, Evonne taught us how to differentiate different types of pie, and different types of crusts. We also taught how to choose the different moulds for the pie, and how to ensure that the inner part is properly cooked.
After that, we moved to the dining room, to learn how to complete our own Shepherd's Pie. By then the Babi Pongteh was fully cooked.

Next came my favourite part of the cooking class - making Durian Tarts. For ease of speed, we used ready made tart shells, but topped them with mashed durian. It smelled so good, and could be eaten as it is.

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
