Kulai District is a newly created district in Johor. It came about following a realignment of the boundaries of the
Johor Bahru District. It is located to the north of
Johor Bahru District. The administrative capital is Kulai town. Other major towns in Kulai include
Bukit Batu,
Kangkar Pulai,
Kelapa Sawit, Saleng, Seelong and
Senai. Due to its proximity to Johor Bahru, parts of Kulai falls within the sprawl of the Johor Bahru metropolitan area.
Kulai is within the parliamentary seat of Kulai, which is the biggest Chinese population area in Johor, with an ethnic majority of 69%. The district is mainly agricultural, with its edges near Johor Bahru experiencing residential and industrial development.
