Church of the Immaculate Conception, Johor Bahru (14 September, 2016)
Church of the Immaculate Conception (GPS: 1.4652, 103.75889) is the main Roman Catholic church in Johor Bahru. It is located on Jalan Gereja. Although there has been a Catholic church in Johor Bahru as early as 1883, the present church building was built in 1927 by Rev. Fr. C. Saleilles, M. AP.
Father Saleilles was the missionary responsible for planting a church in Johor, beginning the work in 1881. Two years after the work started, the Catholic missionary managed to get a piece of land from the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Abu Bakar, and they built the first Church of Our Lady of Lourdes.
