Johor Bahru Glass Temple (Arulmigu Sri Rajakaliamman) (14 September, 2016)
Johor Bahru Glass Temple (GPS: 1.46862, 103.75968), or by its official name, the Arulmigu Sri Rajakaliamman, is a Hindu temple in Johor Bahru. It is located next to the railway tracks, between Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, Jalan Tebrau and Jalan Mohd Taib. This temple is noted for its widespread use of glass and mirrors.
The present Arulmigu Sri Raja Kaliamman Temple dates back to 1996, when the building was rebuilt in a more flamboyant manner. Before that, there were earlier structures going back as far as 1922, making this one of the oldest Hindu temples in Johor Bahru. The inspiration to rebuild the temple with glass came to its chief priest and temple committee chairman, Guru Bhagawan Sittar, who saw temples making extensive use of glass when visiting Bangkok.

The Johor Bahru Glass Temple is surprisingly difficult to reach, not because it's far, but rather because you have to pass through a construction site (at least, I had to, in Sept 2016). From Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, take the service road (Jalan Tun Abdul Razak 1/1) which curves down the slop in an anti-clockwise direction to reach the temple.
I did not take any photos inside the temple because they charge for interior photography, and I left my wallet in the car.

About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
