Kerng Tang Kou Bioh Temple (GPS: 2.04919, 102.57085; Traditional Chinese: 粤東古廟; Simplified Chinese: 粤东古庙) is a Chinese temple in Muar, Johor. It is located on Jalan Bakri, near the Persatuan Kwang Tung Muar building.
Based on the name of the temple, I would suppose that this temple is a Cantonese temple. However, I found out1 that it is in fact a Teochew temple, which makes sense, considering that the Teochews hailed from the eastern portion of Guangdong Province in southern China. I learned that the Kerng Tang Kou Bioh Temple was established in 1895 by someone named Dato' Chua Tuah Soon, who is said to the a leader of the Teochew community in Muar. The temple venerates a Warrior Deity, Xuanwu who is also known locally as Xuán Tiān Shàngdì 玄天上帝. The feast day of this deity is on the 15th day of Chinese New Year, commonly called Chap Goh Meh, where devotees observe a traditional custom known as Puak Tau Sai 博豆狮1.

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
