Masjid Jamek Sultan Ibrahim, Muar (11 September, 2016)
Masjid Jamek Muar, also known as
Masjid Jamek Sultan Ibrahim (GPS: 2.04639, 102.55838), is a beautiful mosque in
Muar, Johor. It is located along
Jalan Petrie, with the
Muar River behind it. The mosque was built in 1925, replacing the original mosque on the same site that was constructed in 1887. The new mosque was designed in the Classical style with an eclectic blend of Middle Eastern elements. The architect was a local draughtsman, Sulaiman Alias. It includes an ornate 4-storey tall minaret and beautiful Palladian Venetian windows. It was completed in 1930 at a cost of M$10,000, and opened by the Tengku Mahkota of Johor, with the Menteri Besar of Johor, Dato Mustafa Jaafar, in attendance.
In 1999, a second Muar Jamek Mosque was built across the Muar River in
Tanjung Agas. It is of the same design as Masjid Jamek Sultan Ibrahim, and is called
Masjid Sultan Ismail.
