Nam Thien Temple, Parit Unas, Muar (12 September, 2016)
Nam Thien Temple (GPS: 1.98561, 102.6008) is a large Chinese temple in Muar, Johor. To be exact, it is located at Parit Unas, which is about 12km to the south of Muar town. The principal deity of the temple is San Chai Ya (Lord of Virtuous Properity). This is possibly the biggest temple dedicated to this deity in the country.
Nam Thien Temple is said to have been established in the late 1930s, a decade or so after Parit Unas was settled as a fishing village. In 1948, the trustees of the temple acquired a piece of land on which the initial temple building was erected. Over the years, and with donations pouring in, the temple has grown into a sprawling complex of buildings.
The compound of Nam Thien Temple is beautifully landscaped, with man-made ponds lush with an abundance of waterlilies and lotuses and surrounded by willow trees.
In addition to San Chai Ya, the Sakyamuni Buddha is likewise venerated here. And so, the temple has a hive of festivity during Wesak Day.

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
