Rumah Seri Banai (GPS: 6.14771, 100.37207) is a restored traditional Kedah-style Malay house, or Rumah Kedah, rebuilt in Alor Setar, Kedah. This house was originally located at Kampung Banai in Kubang Pasu District. It was moved to the campus of Universiti Utara Malaysia, when the structure was given to the university as a gift. The building was moved again, to Alor Setar, where it was rebuilt on the grounds of Dataran Darul Aman, near the Tugu Pahlawan, and within a short walking distance of another traditional house, Rumah Tok Su. The two houses are part of the Malay Heritage Village project which was spearheaded by former Menteri Besar of Kedah, Tan Sri Dato' Seri Sanusi Junid, who was in office from 1995 to 1999.
Rumah Seri Banai, named after the village it was originally located, was owned by Tuan Haji Saad bin Taib, who was the penghulu, or headman, of Mukim Pelubang. He lived in this house with his wife. The house was built by a local housebuilder, Tok Bakar, using local timber such as the meranti and the temak. It stands on stilts with granite pillar bases. There are two staircases leading up to the house from to different sides.
Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
