Bukit Kayu Hitam (GPS: 6.5101, 100.41898) is a border town in Kedah on the Malaysia-Thailand border. The name Bukit Kayu Hitam means "Hill of the Black Forest". Bukit Kayu Hitam is at the northern end of the North-South Expressway (E1). The expressway connects with Thailand Route 4, also called Phetkasem Road in Dannok. It is the main border crossing between Thailand into Malaysia.
People travelling to Thailand from Malaysia immigration at the checkpoint which is 800 meters from the actual border. The Thai immigration checkpoint is at the border, just outside the town of Dannok in Sadao district, Songkhla province, Thailand.
Most people to Bukit Kayu Hitam simply pass through on the way to Thailand. There is also a Duty-Free Complex located between the Malaysian and Thai checkpoints.
