Candi Pendiat (25 July, 2015)
Candi Pendiat (GPS: 5.73848, 100.41406) is one of many ancient sites at Bujang Valley that was discovered by HG Quaritch Wales and his wife Dorothy in 1936. Originally located at Kampung Pendiat, where it was believed to have been built in the 11th century, Candi Pendiat was moved to the Bujang Valley Archaeological Park in 1974.
Only the base of laterite bricks were reconstructed, whereas the rest of Candi Pendiat was originally of wood. Found at the site of Candi Pendiat was a bronze box with gemstones and items made of gold. This is a Hindu candi, with a
mandapa (outer porch) and a
vimana (inner sanctuary). What is interesting is that the mandapa and vimana are separate from each other. Candi Pendiat is located next to Site 16A, discovered by Dorothy Wales. Site 16A turned out to be a Buddhist site, as a bronze standing Buddha was discovered there.
