Guar Chempedak (GPS: 5.85408, 100.46224) is a small town in Yan District, Kedah. It is a rural community located midway between Alor Setar and Sungai Petani. Located just north of Gurun, Guar Chempedak is the town you will pass by if you are on your way to the many popular waterfalls of Kedah such as Seri Perigi, Titi Hayun and Batu Hampar. By the way, the word "guar" means hillock in the northern Malay dialect, not "gua" which means cave in Malay.
There isn't much of interest at Guar Chempedak. Having said that, I have to say that Guar Chempedak has one of the loveliest country roads in Kedah. The road, Jalan Guar Chempedak, links the pekan (village heart) with Yan Kechil. Along the way, it passes through the villages of Teroi and Titi Serong. What I love about the road is that it is lined with tall trees, so it feels like you are driving through a green tunnel. If you look to your left, you will see green paddy fields with Gunung Jerai in the distance. I stopped the car once so that I can take a few shots of the mountain.
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
