Gurun (GPS: 5.81994, 100.47727) is a town in the Kuala Muda District of Kedah. It is located to the north of Sungai Petani and Bedong, and to the south of Guar Chempedak. Gurun is administered by the Sungai Petani Town Council, as with other small towns in the area. The town has a developing industrial park. Several major heavy industries are located here including Modernas, Perwaja Steel and Naza.

The name Gurun means desert. This name probably comes about because of the once barren terrain brought about from being blocked by Gunung Jerai. The mountain is also Gurun's main call to fame, for the road leading up Gunung Jerai starts a little north of Gurun.

How to reach Gurun

Exit the North-South Expressway at the Gurun Interchange, Exit 173.
