Makam Purba (GPS: 6.34869, 99.76657) is an ancient grave at Hutan Buluh, in an area surrounding by paddy fields in the mukim1 of Ulu Melaka, Langkawi. To reach it, turn in to the lane heading south from Jalan Ulu Melaka. There is a signboard but the paint is feeling, so the lettering is faint. The grave it located at the end of the lane.
Makam Purba was discovered by someone named Ahmad bin Bulat in April 1975. He was digging around his house when he discovered it. There are two tombstones at Makam Purba. The National Museum Department has concluded that Makam Purba could be of Achenese origin, and quite likely for someone of high standing. The graves are located close to the first mosque to be built on Langkawi. There is great possibility that Makam Purba may belong to a Muslim scholar that travelled to Langkawi to spread the religion. The fact that the tombstone is of Achenese design points to the possibility that the area may have held an Achenese settlement.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
