Pulau Bumbon Besar (GPS: 6.28629, 99.864) is an island to the southeast of
Kuah town in Langkawi. This C-shaped island has a lovely stretch of beach facing the east. The island is uninhabited with just some structures in disrepair. It is possible to get a boat to take you to Pulau Bumbon Besar from the jetty at Kuah. Just ask around.
Pulau Bumbon Besar is one of a pair of islands that includes
Pulau Bumbon Kecil, which is separated from the former by Selat Pulau Balek. It is within a cluster of islands that also includes
Pulau Tanggok Kecil,
Pulau Tanggok Besar,
Pulau Buyong and
Pulai Tiloi.
The name
bumbon or
pokok bumbon are shrubs that hunters use to stalk their prey.
