Pulau Timun (GPS: 6.31359, 99.91395) is an island to the southeast of
Pulau Langkawi, in the Langkawi Archipelago, Kedah. Although it is one of the bigger islands, it is still uninhabited and undeveloped. There are a few sheltered coves on the island but so far, they are rarely visited. The island is in the form of a capital T. On the easternmost is Tanjung Pulau Chorong, on the westernmost is Tanjung Assam, and on the southernmost is Tanjung Timun. Teluk Nipah Kecil and Teluk Nipah Besar are two coves on the southern side while Tanjung Pulau Sigal is a cape to the northeast.
Pulau Timun was named after the cucumber, which is timun in Malay. So far no further explanation is forthcoming why it was given this name.
Pulau Timun is surrounded by smaller islets and rocky outcrops including
Pulau Chorong,
Pulau Paku,
Pulau Kedera,
Pulau Lading,
Pulau Kerengga,
Pulau Kerai and
Pulau Chupak.
