Pulau Tuba (GPS: 6.24329, 99.84203) is one of the islands in Langkawi. It is located to the southeast of Pulau Langkawi, to the immediate east of Pulau Dayang Bunting, which is separated from it by Selat Bagan Nyior. On the northernmost part is the cape of Tanjung Pandan while at the southernmost is the cape of Tanjung Rami. Other capes include Tanjung Tempulin, Tanjung Tuba and Tanjung Peluru to the east, and the promontory of Batu Puyoh to the south. There are several small bays around the islands including Teluk Karam and Teluk Bujor to the east, and Teluk Berembang, a wide bay to the south. Pulau Tuba has a clinic and a mosque for the population which is entirely Muslim.
The name of the island, tuba, refers to a toxic root - usually Derris elliptica - used by local fishermen for catching fish. It is one of the few islands in the Langkawi Archipelago that supports human habitation. There are a few villages on Pulau Tuba. The main ones are Kampung Telok Berembang, facing Teluk Berembang, on the southern part of the island, Kampung Tuba at the centre of the island, and Bagan Assam to the southwest. Other villagers include Kampung Telok Bujor, Kampung Lubok Chempedak, Kampung Pendukang and Kampung Bagan Pauh.
You can experience the village lifestyle by joining a homestay program at Pulau Tuba. The Pulau Tuba Homestay has 37 units of rooms for visitors. To visit, please contact Mr Abu Bakar Mat at 04 966 6102.
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
