Sungai Kenyum, Langkawi (8 September, 2018)
Sungai Kenyum is a river in the interior of
Langkawi, Kedah. A tributary of
Sungai Melaka, it flows northwards, through the paddy growing part of the island, to empty into the main river. Running almost parallel to the river is
Jalan Simpang Kenyum, which I believe got its name from the junction with
Jalan Mata Air. Jalan Mata Air crosses Sungai Kenyum a short distance from the junction.
Sungai Kenyum is known as Sungai Titi Cangwang when it reaches Ulu Melaka. The river eventually flows into Sungai Melaka. Today a portion of Sungai Kenyum has been dredged and canalised, so that its water can be used for rice irrigation.
