Underwater World Langkawi (GPS: 6.28774, 99.72865) at Pantai Cenang, is one of Pulau Langkawi's major tourist attractions.
Langkawi Underwater World is a marine showcase. It showcases both fresh and salt water fish and other forms of marine life. In fact, the collection at Underwater World Langkawi total over 5,000 types exhibited in more than 100 tanks of varying sizes. The highlight at Underwater World Langkawi is a giant tank housing large marine species such as sharks, stingrays, groupers and green turtles. Visitors can walk through a 15-metre tunnel that runs through the main tank to enjoy a spectacular view of the marine life. Outside in the gardens other more fish, plant life and a small menagerie of mammals.
On 28th May 2005, the Yang Amat Berbahagia Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad officiated the opening of the new building at the Underwater World Langkawi. This new building houses 3 ecosystems. These include a Tropical Rainforest environment with exhibit of Anaconda, Marmoset and Capybara; a Temperate ecosystem with the African Penguins & Seal, and the Sub Antarctic Ecosystem with the Rockhopper Penguins. Underwater World Langkawi also has a 3D theatre and information gallery.
