Lunas Rubber Smoke House is a historic building in Lunas, Kedah. The old rubber smoke house of Lunas was built by an uncle of Laurence Loh, a prominent Penang architect, in 1961, for the use of rubber small holders to smoke rubber. It was left unused since the 1980's, with the closing down of rubber plantations around Lunas.

In 2006, Laurance Loh restored the old smoke house and turned it into the first site museum to showcase the Rubber Story in the country, as part of the Amazing Malaysians programme sponsored by Digi, a local telecommunications company. The basement level of the smokehouse displays the work of Lunas schoolchildren who were involved in the programme to document the oral history of Lunas and its heritage sites.

The restored smokehouse consists of two sections. The first recounts the story of Lunas, how it got its name, and the prominent places to visit there. The second section is an authentic showcase of an actual rubber smokehouse - preserved for visitors to appreciate.
How to go to the Old Rubber Smoke House
Exit the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway into Lunas. Go along the main road. Just before entering Lunas town, you arrive at the Old Rubber Smoke House located on the left side of the road.

I discovered to my chagrin that a hawker centre, Smoke House Corner, is now operation beside the old smoke house building.
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
